I wonder what the story is regarding the presence of the RipCurl company name and logo (twice, if "R.I.P Curl" counts) on the dust jacket. As product placement goes this seems a juicy instance for the company in question, despite the possibility that "R.I.P Curl" might be intended as some sort of slur. Apparently there is a feeling in the surfing community that the company did not conduct themselves with grace in connection with a 2006 sponsored surfing championship in Mexico (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rip_Curl).

An Australian ex-pat blogger has pointed out that both the company logo and the three fin design of the surf boards represent anachronisms (http://expatatlarge.blogspot.com/2009/08/pynch-me.html).
